Product Details

Originally broadcast on VH1, The Beach Boys: Endless Harmony tells the Beach Boys' story through interviews with the group as well as their friends, contemporaries, and musicians inspired by them, archival footage, and 45 of the band's songs. The film doesn't shy away from any of the struggles the Beach Boys -- as a band and as individuals -- encountered: from the abusive, stage-father tendencies of Murry Wilson to Brian Wilson's well-documented dependencies and challenges to the internal tensions between him and the other band members, particularly Mike Love. Though the interviews with Brian Wilson may not be long enough for some diehard fans, the older footage of Carl and Dennis Wilson, Glen Campbell, Hal Blaine, and David Marks adds further depth and dimension to Endless Harmony's representation of the group's story, while commentary from the likes of Elvis Costello and Sean Lennon, among others, adds yet another perspective. The DVD of The Beach Boys: Endless Harmony also adds video clips for "Surfin' USA," "Things We Did Last Summer," "Little Deuce Coupe," "In My Room," "Friends," and "Sloop John B.," as well as Surround Sound audio mixes of songs like "California Girls," "God Only Knows," and "Sail on Sailor," making it a revealing and thoughtfully made document that should delight most fans. ~ Heather Phares
