Product Details

A tense post war British Noir thriller based in the heat of North Africa with a superb cast including Trevor Howard, Herbert Lom and Wilfred Hyde-White David Redfern (Trevor Howard), an archaeologist, has been sent by The British Museum to Tunisia to recover some valuable art treasures washed ashore off the Tunisian coast years earlier. Redfern arrives in the sleepy fishing village of Kabarta after a hazardous journey in stormy weather. He is welcomed to the village's only hotel by the beautiful Anouk (Anouk Amiee), the mournful pianist Agno (Wilfred Hyde-White) and the mysterious Rankl (Herbert Lom). Sensing tension in the village, Redfern quickly begins his work of recovering and cataloguing the treasures under the watchful eye of curator Serafis (Walter Rilla). As Redfern falls in love with Anouk, he uncovers a gun running operation and quickly discovers the hidden secrets and dangers of the north African village. Directed by Ronald Neame and based on the book by Victor Canning, Golden Salamander was an award-winning film at the Locarno film festival in 1950.
